MAITREYA INNER WORK  |  SOUL DEVELOPMENT

Conversations of compassion and depth, encouraging a life of the soul.

.

..

MAITREYA is the name for an aspect of the Buddha meaning, “benevolent friend in close attunement”.   This describes how I feel in offering this inner work.  I am here to share the walk on the path, to support, to assist in removing painful barriers and to offer additional doorways for becoming free of false conditioning ~ as my teachers have done and continue to do for me. This is an inner experiential unfolding.  Together in this work, we seek to explore the landscape of your interior to find your personal doorways into spiritual discovery and development.  In this way I hope to be a support for you in developing a real and living relationship with your true inner nature and expression of your soul and self.

MAITREYA INNER WORK

Maitreya Inner Work is an experiential process of integrating one’s personal life and the life of the soul.
Many of us in western society have come to spiritual exploration through personal means of inner growth work to heal our life experiences and the pain of an emotionally damaged self.  These life wounds can run deep grooves within as we either bury them to live an unconscious but acceptable life or perhaps they continually weigh on us, never leaving us alone.  We may feel oppressed, the life within us depleted, and we find ourselves isolated unable to enjoy being alive.  Or we may feel anxious and fearful, full of anger, unable to settle into ourselves, perhaps running and filling up every moment of time and space.  In this work we explore our reactivity to people and life events gradually unwinding the barriers created by false beliefs and the conditioning of our past.
In this work we seek to integrate the personality with and as a true expression of the soul.  Through conversations of compassion and depth we may talk about life events, past history, personal trials, and the wounds of the inner self as this is where we live, where we are formed; within ourselves, our bodies, our emotions, and our mental perceptions, created by the external influences of family and society, developing our world view over time…  and…  this is where we experience ourselves as the spiritual expression of being human.  Together in this spiritual work we are looking within to remove the barriers to experiencing this threshold, the convergence of soul and self.
…moving back and forth across the threshold where the two worlds touch,
See, the door is round and open.  Don’t go back to sleep.”
~ Jelaludin Rumi.
.
When living in the temple, chanting while practicing Karma Yoga (cleaning and daily chores), I would pray that my body live in my soul rather than my soul being hidden in my body; meaning I wanted to live as my true soul self.  That was over 30 years ago.  Life, spiritual practice, personal expression as an artist and educator, a master’s degree in psychology, and continued experience as a Diamond Approach student have brought me to this path of working with others in a way that can open one to the awareness and recognition of the movement of the soul within ~ you can get to know it, feel it, sense it, and be it.  It is an actual kinesthetic, felt-sense within that can be known and experienced.  As one learns to recognize this inner movement and the true nature of the soul, we can begin to discern between the taught conditioning of our past and who we really are with all of our life experience and personhood in tact.
In the Diamond Approach teachings the ego is described as the hardened aspects of the soul shaped by life events, creating the beliefs and structures of the personality self.  “Who we take our self to be”, as one of my teachers reminds us.  Often these structures within our personalities are false beliefs about who we are, who we think we are, and the nature in which we embody these beliefs and live our lives.  You may recognize these stressful conflicts as contradictions between what you have been taught about yourself, who you are supposed to be and what you are supposed to do, and the true nature of your inner self.
We are not seeking to discard or destroy ego in order to be ourselves.  We are seeking to experience, to understand and integrate our ego’s real life expression, the life of the soul.  The soul is the personal expression of the One Being, by whatever name we choose.  To develop awareness of the soul is to develop the personhood of the individual as this true expression.  To remove the barriers to the living expression of the soul is to expose the false shaping of ourselves and who we take ourselves to be, gradually unwinding the distortions, false beliefs, defenses, and deficiencies occurring over time.  It is like clarifying butter to get to the essence of the real thing – not who you take yourself to be, but feeling like your self naturally as you live your day.
When choosing to explore the interior of our selves in search for the Soul Self with all that life has offered, easy and difficult, blessing and pain, we choose to look, to see within, to experience the impact and the impression it has made on our soul.  The soul is the impressionable and sensitive aspect of our inner being, becoming shaped by the daily dings and beauties of life into something we call our self.  The things we are told about who we are all seep into the psyche becoming the person of the young developing self, often distorting our sense of self and separating us from the truth of who we are.  The Soul is living.  It is your personhood, it is your very self.  Discovering and living into the expression of our true soul self is the delight, wonder, and beauty of this inner exploration.
For those who like to research, “The Pearl Beyond Price”, by AH Almaas, is the primary source for understanding the ground of this work.  In this material you will come to know something about the juncture and departure of western psychology and spiritual development regarding the nature of the soul and psyche.  Secondly, I would suggest, “Essence and the Elixir of Enlightenment”, also by AH Almaas.  I believe you may find this a more personal application of the philosophy and aim of soul work as well as entry points and doorways into the deeper aspects of this unique inner work.  I combine this with other forms of inner work and spiritual teachings.  I also draw from my education and the many influences, teachings, and teachers who have helped re-shape this particular soul.
