09.Leaves_in_Monochrome copyPORTFOLIO REVIEW

In reviewing your work, I will share with you what is immediately experienced, felt and/or recognized in seeing your images.  This will begin our conversation and expand into known and unknown explorations of your creative journey as you bring forward what you want from our time together, your questions and curiosities, and what spontaneously arises from our shared experience of your images.  This may come in the form of emerging themes, noting personal sensitivities and sensibilities that are expressed in your work, and the impact of your particular seeing and interpretation of the environment/subject you choose to photograph.  We will talk about technical and aesthetic challenges and successes and how this may contribute or detract from your expression.  Through conversation we can look into your ideas and desires for expressing your sense of self in your work, your purpose and meaning, and the personal affinity felt for your chosen subjects.  This often provides insight into the deeper significance of that which you choose to see and create.  We can talk about directions for next steps in camera and darkroom work, in visual awareness and composition, in themes and personal meaning, and commercial or artistic pathways for continuing your creative pursuits.  Though I am a traditional old school camera and darkroom  photographer, these innate visual qualities are present in any visual media.  Therefore any photographer, whether traditional or digital, can benefit from this kind of personal 1:1 evaluation and conversation of that which is meaningful to you and your creative expression.

PRIVATE INSTRUCTION

often begins with a portfolio review and you laying out your areas of interest – what you want to learn from our time together.  From there we determine what we want to cover in your next few sessions and order of priorities.  This might mean reviewing more work, focusing on aesthetic development and creative exploration, spending time in the darkroom printing from your negatives, learning some aspect of procedure or technique, or going out in the field to work with camera technique, seeing and meaning, exposure, and visual exploration.
