Iran warned of more widespread retaliation if civilians are hit after a missile strike in Haifa killed at least two people, while AP and Axios reported fresh strikes, Strait of Hormuz pressure and ceasefire talks.

Iran warned on Monday of “more devastating and widespread” retaliation if civilians are targeted, as the conflict with Israel intensified and casualty reports continued to rise.

The warning followed a reported missile strike in Haifa that killed at least two people. AP also reported that two others were missing in rubble, while airstrikes on Iran had killed more than 25 people.

The escalation comes as pressure builds around the Strait of Hormuz. AP reported that President Donald Trump had set a Tuesday deadline tied to reopening the waterway and threatened Iran’s infrastructure if it was not met. A White House statement earlier this month said U.S. forces were striking the Iranian Navy in part to sustain movement through the strait.

At the same time, back-channel diplomacy has not stopped. Axios reported that mediators were discussing a possible 45-day ceasefire, although the White House declined to comment.

AnewZ’s Reuters-backed Morning Brief for 6 April said the same confrontation was shaping the day’s coverage, with retaliation warnings, Haifa casualties and pressure over Hormuz at the center of the story.

The situation remains fluid, with the key question now whether mediation can slow the fighting before more strikes follow.
