A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for parts of Southeast Alaska marine waters, with gusty winds and rough seas expected through Sunday evening.
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for parts of Southeast Alaska marine waters on Sunday, April 5, according to the National Weather Service in Juneau.
The advisory covers Dixon Entrance to Cape Decision out to 15 nautical miles and runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. AKDT. NWS says southeast winds of 20 to 30 knots are expected, with gusts up to 40 knots and seas of 6 to 8 feet.
A separate NWS summary page also shows a Small Craft Advisory for adjacent Southeast Alaska marine zones through Sunday afternoon.
The advisory is a reminder that even moderate-looking weather can quickly create hazardous conditions for smaller boats. Mariners should expect choppy conditions, reduced comfort and more difficult handling on the water.
The National Weather Service says the broader Southeast Alaska coastal waters forecast area stretches from Dixon Entrance to Cape Suckling out to 100 nautical miles.
Boaters should check for later updates before heading out, since marine advisories can change quickly if winds strengthen or seas build further.
