FSIS has retracted its lead alert for Walmart Great Value dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets after updated laboratory results cleared the product.
The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has retracted its public health alert for Walmart Great Value dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets after updated laboratory results found the product does not pose a public health concern.
FSIS first issued the alert on April 1, 2026, saying routine surveillance sampling had indicated elevated trace levels of lead in frozen, ready-to-eat chicken nuggets sold under Walmart’s Great Value brand. The original notice said the product was no longer for sale but could still be in consumers’ freezers.
The affected product was identified as Great Value Fully Cooked Dino Shaped Chicken Breast Nuggets in 29-ounce bags, with a best-if-used-by date of February 10, 2027, lot code 0416DPO1215 and establishment number P44164.
FSIS said on April 7 that the alert has been withdrawn after updated laboratory results changed the agency’s assessment. The retraction means consumers are no longer being told to discard or return the product on the basis of the lead concern.
Yavapai County and other public-health pages had relayed the original warning before the retraction, and Walmart’s recall page now lists both the alert and the update.
The episode shows how quickly a food-safety notice can change when new testing results come in.
