The American Cancer Society is launching a new open-access journal focused on pediatric, adolescent and young adult cancer.

In an April 7 announcement, ACS said the journal, Pediatric, Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer, will be its fourth medical journal. The organization said the publication will feature peer-reviewed original research and invited content, and that it will publish quarterly.

ACS named Dr. Nirali N. Shah as the journal’s inaugural editor-in-chief. Shah is a senior investigator at the National Cancer Institute and heads the Hematologic Malignancies Section in the Pediatric Oncology Branch.

The society said submissions are now open and that the first issue is planned for late summer.

The launch expands ACS’s publishing portfolio into a more narrowly defined oncology niche at a time when pediatric and young adult cancer research continues to grow as a specialty area.

A Newswise republication of the announcement and Shah’s NCI profile both supported the same launch details and appointment.
