Bush stone-curlews in resident groups showed tighter movement

GPS tracking linked reinforcers that joined resident birds with slower dispersal and larger core ranges than birds that stayed in an exclusive reinforcer group. Survival to 55 days did not differ significantly, and the observational design could not show that social integration caused the movement patterns.

Review finds vine tea extracts active against bacteria and fungi

Vine tea’s main flavonoid, dihydromyricetin, has shown reported activity against bacteria and fungi in laboratory studies, and some formulations performed better than the free compound. But the evidence is uneven, with no standardized dose, limited direct proof of how the compound works, and safety data that do not answer questions about human use.

Butterfly study links early reproductive isolation to many DNA regions

Researchers combined a pangenome, chromatin-accessibility data and simulations to examine how mutational, regulatory and structural differences may contribute to reproductive isolation while populations exchange genes. Study finds liver, lung and kidney lesions in four fatal DENV-4 cases

A tissue study of four fatal DENV-4 cases from Ceará’s 2012 dengue epidemic found abnormalities in the liver, lungs and kidneys, while the hearts examined were largely preserved. TNF-α and IFN-γ staining was detected in liver, lung and kidney tissue. The qualitative study cannot estimate risk, prognosis or the frequency of these findings.
